P7 took on the role of the farmer today and investigated the tyre of a tractor. They have been learning about the different parts of the circle and put their knowledge to the test investigating how they could accurately measure the circumference. Patrick and Ryan had a wow idea to use rope or string to measure the circumference and then measure the string. We put their method to the test. After investigating the circumference there was a little wonder about pie! Using pie we then checked if our measuring was accurate. We were able to use the formula 2 x 3.14 x radius to check! We were pretty impressed that our measurements were accurate and loved proving this using pie! We also learned that 3.14 was a rounded number for pie so our measurements weren’t fully accurate but very close. We also enjoyed being farmers!
