We are reading Under the Hawthorn Tree by Marita Conlon McKenna. The novel is set in Famine Ireland and we are learning more about life in Ireland during this time and the impact of the famine on children our age. We retold a poignant part of the story from Eily's point of view expressing how the situation was making her feel.
