St. Mary’s Blitz
Yesterday in Plunkett Park, we proudly hosted our annual Bridget Ann Flanagan and Sean Stewart Memorial Tournament.
We were delighted to welcome teams from Holy Trinity PS Cookstown, St. Colmcille’s PS Carrickmore, St. Teresa’s PS Loughmacrory, Sacred Heart PS Rock and St. Joseph’s PS Galbally.
After a full morning of competitive football, St. Colmcille’s Carrickmore and Sacred Heart Rock progressed to the boys’ final. In a spirited and closely contested match, the boys from Carmen emerged victorious in the dying moments to claim the Sean Stewart Trophy.
The girls round-robin tournament was equally exciting, with St. Mary’s PS Pomeroy facing local rivals St. Joseph’s PS Galbally in the final. After a tightly contested first half, the Pomeroy girls found another gear in the closing stages, pulling ahead to secure victory and retain the trophy for another year.
Once again, we were honoured to remember our beloved colleague Seamus Beggs by presenting the Footballer of the Tournament Awards in his memory. The boys award went to Ronan Penrose of Carrickmore, while the girls award was deservedly won by our own Kyla Conlan. Both players displayed outstanding skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
A heartfelt thank you to Colm Rafferty and Alicia McCaffrey for presenting the trophies, and to Pomeroy Plunketts for preparing and lining the pitches. Special thanks also to our referees and time keeper — Anna, Aoibheann, Annie, Joel and Fionn for officiating the games so professionally.
We are also grateful to our tea ladies, Noelle and Rachael, and to Jenna and Maria’s Chippy for providing much-needed refreshments throughout the day.
Congratulations to all the teams and players for their excellent performances and for helping to make the tournament such a memorable occasion.
