St. Mary’s Tournament

25th Jun 2025

Last Friday, under the blistering heat at Plunkett Park, we proudly hosted our annual Bridget Ann Flanagan and Sean Stewart Memorial Tournament. We welcomed teams from Holy Trinity Cookstown, St. Colmcille's Carrickmore, St. Teresa’s Loughmacrory, St. Mary’s Stewartstown, and St. Joseph’s Galbally.
After a full morning of competitive football, it was Loughmacrory and Cookstown who advanced to the boys’ final. In a spirited contest, the boys from Loughmacrory emerged victorious, taking home the Sean Stewart Trophy.
The girls' round-robin tournament was equally thrilling, with St. Mary’s Pomeroy facing off against local rivals Galbally in a tense final. After a closely contested first half, our girls found another gear in the final minutes, pulling ahead to claim victory — securing the trophy for the third consecutive year and capping off a phenomenal season.
This year’s tournament was made even more special as we honoured our beloved colleague Seamus Beggs, introducing Boy and Girl Footballer of the Tournament Awards in his memory. The boy’s award went to Loughmcrory’s Thomas òg Cunningham, while the girl’s award was deservedly won by our own Hannah Murphy. Both players displayed outstanding skill and determination throughout the day.
A heartfelt thank you to Colm Rafferty, Kieran Flanagan and Eddie Laird for presenting the trophies, and to Pomeroy Plunketts for preparing and lining the pitches. Special thanks to our referees — Odhran, Pearse, Laura, Aoibheann, Lucy, and Conor — for officiating the games so well.
We’re also grateful to our tea ladies, Rachael and Lucy, and to Jenna and Maria’s Chippy for providing much-needed refreshments.
Congratulations to all teams and players for making it such a memorable day!
